And it's open to tourists. Just walk up to the entrance and for a small fee you get to go inside. |

You see, the outer cladding of this pyramid is largely intact, giving one an idea of how all pyramids once were covered, until stripped by the locals of the outer layer, which was used in Cairo for building projects. This one may have been a little too far out and maybe by the time their attention turned to this one, archaeologists put a stop to it. . |

This may have been the first straight sided pyramid, as opposed to the older step pyramids. They may have started too steep, aiming for a taller pyramid, but then for materials reasons, time, or potential instability, cut the process short by angling in. In more ways than one, a most intriguing structure to me. |
